What Solar Rebates Are Available?
The main solar incentive available in Australia is the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, also known as the STC rebate.
This is not usually paid to you as cash after installation. In most cases, the value of the STCs is applied as an upfront discount on your solar quote by your solar retailer or installer.
The STC rebate may apply to:

Battery Installations
The amount can vary depending on your system size, location, installation date, and current STC value.
Battery Rebates
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program supports eligible households, businesses, and community organisations with the cost of installing eligible battery systems.
From 1 July 2025, the program has provided an upfront discount of around 30% on eligible small-scale battery systems connected to new or existing rooftop solar.
From 1 May 2026, changes were introduced to the battery rebate calculation. The discount is still designed to remain around 30% for a range of battery sizes, but the support now tapers depending on the amount of usable battery capacity installed.

Bigger is Not always Better
When it comes to batteries, the biggest system is not always the best system.
A battery should be sized to suit your home, your solar system, your inverter, and when you actually use power. The Government also recommends making sure the battery is not oversized for your solar or inverter, as this can limit the benefit to your home and the grid.

Is there a Queensland Battery Rebate?
The previous Queensland Battery Booster rebate was a state-based program from 2024. New battery rebate options in 2026 are mainly through the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
There is also a Queensland Government program called Supercharged Solar for Renters, which provides eligible landlords with rebates of up to $3,500 to install solar PV systems on rental properties across Queensland. Landlords must apply and receive conditional approval before installing and claiming the rebate.
Solar feed-in tariffs in Regional Queensland
A feed-in tariff is the rate you receive for excess solar power exported back to the grid.
For regional Queensland, Ergon Energy Retail lists the solar feed-in tariff from 1 July 2026 as 6.006 cents per kWh for all exports.
Because feed-in tariffs are lower than the cost of buying power from the grid, the best value from solar usually comes from using your solar power at home during the day, rather than exporting most of it. Ergon also notes that using solar at home gives the most value because it helps avoid buying electricity from the grid at higher rates.

Usually no. Solar rebates are generally applied as an upfront discount on your quote, reducing the amount you pay for your system.
Can I get a battery rebate if I already have solar?
Yes, eligible battery systems can usually be installed with either a new or existing rooftop solar system, depending on your setup and eligibility.
Should I get a battery now or wait?
That depends on your power usage and current solar system. Batteries can help you store excess solar power for use at night, and with rebate rates reducing over the next 4 years, it may be worth considering sooner rather than later.
Do renters qualify for solar rebates?
Renters generally do not apply directly for solar rebates, but eligible landlords may be able to apply through Queensland’s Supercharged Solar for Renters program for eligible rental properties.
